I looked back and my last blog post was Feb 5th! It has been more than a month. I guess I have been distracted with other interests. There are a few different things competing for my attention and I guess blogging took a back seat.
I am now in Vancouver and have been here for more than 2 weeks since 23rd Feb. We have another week here before going back to sunny Malaysia. The weather here has been cold around 2 - 6 ℃, end of winter. It is nice here and we came here for my brother's wedding, staying to help out before and after. Have been enjoying the food alot!!! But since it is winter we couldn't go hiking or do many outdoor activities. It has been a chilled family vacation with food and shopping.
Here are some of the nice things we did -
We stayed at an Air BNB in Richmond (Chinese area) near TNT Supermarket. It is an Asian supermarket. My mom has been enjoying the nice food there and has been cooking meals for us. My brothers both have been missing my mom's cooking so I guess it is great for them.
We had hotpot steamboat at home the first week we were here. Nice cold weather with a steaming hot pot dinner is awesome. We bought veggies and meats and cooked it on a hotpot cooker. Was really fun. I especially loved the foo chuk and frozen tofu. The prawns were awesome too, giving flavour to the soup.
We have been enjoying playing with my brother's dog. He is a poodle and is named Popcorn. He is so cute! And very well behaved. Also loves people and is an attention seeker. He goes up to people and makes friends with them. Charming and cute indeed!
We have been enjoying dim sum. Yummy ... we love it and the pieces of dim sum are so meaty and chunky... Great and authentic Hong Kong food.
Another great Chinese food place is Dinesty restaurant. Awesome food. We ate there twice and both times were awesome. Had some great times there celebrating my dad's birthday with a mango cake. The food is kinda grand and affordable, kinda like in Shanghai. Idk, reminds me of Shanghai.
Another great place is the food court in Aberdeen mall. Awesome Asian food. I especially like the chow mien and see yau kai.
I love Indian food and my bro took us to eat dosa (tosai in Malay). It was so goooood. I love it alot and it is more grand and bigger than tosai in Malaysia. My bro says the place is legit, real deal. The dosas were huge and had fillings in them! Awesome!
My family loves shopping and we shopped at McArthurGlen Designer Outlet. I am not into shopping these days but I bought a pair of jeans for a steal. My mom and bros shopped at a few stores and it was fun.
Luckily there was a Japadogs at the outlet! I was hungry after shopping. Japadogs has awesome Canadian fusion hotdogs. I love the one with mashed radish... so yummy. I love hot dogs and these are really special and yummy.
I love sushi in Vancouver! The salmon is so good! And it is cheap too. We ate at Sushi California and Sushi Garden. Both were great to get my raw salmon fix. The sashimi are huge unlike back home. And I love the rolls too. I am now thinking to try more Malaysian sushi when I get home. I still think I prefer Canadian.
Not forgetting the wedding... the main reason I came here! It was a romantic, lovely wedding and very well coordinated. Lots of special touches were added and the place was beautiful up in Grouse Mountains, a ski resort. There was a lovely sunset that day and very pretty. My younger brother got married! Great, and my parents were happy too.
We had Malaysian food! The curry mee was awesome but the rest failed to meet the mark, which was set low to begin with. The satay was off. Char koay teow was alright. Nasi lemak off. Lol. I guess it was not really legit. The place is called John 3:16. Near our Air BNB.
Today I had my mom's french toast for breakfast, with Canadian maple syrup. So satisfying. Anything with syrup is always nice. I need to remember to buy a bottle before I go home. Maybe from Costco. Costco is a huge warehouse supermarket and has great supersize deals when buying in bulk. Nice!
Anyway, one more week left here! We leave on Sunday! Let's hope I have a great time here with the remaining few days. Will update more interesting food I try. Thanks for reading! Hope I blog more often too!
