The end of the year is coming and Christmas is over. I have put on 2 kg and am looking forward to crash dieting/fasting! Just kidding. Christmas this year was great. My whole family was together as my brother came back from overseas.
As usual we had our annual roast chicken on Christmas eve. The chicken was tender and juicy, thanks to my bro. It was a huge roast chicken baked with roast veggies! Yum! It was deliciously and lovingly seasoned with garlic, herbs and salt, and a lemon inside the chicken. No need for stuffing. The skin was crisp and the meat was tender and juicy.
These were the veggies. They were seasoned with salt and herbs then baked with the chicken in the same tray. They were nicely caramelised. We had an assortment of veggies including celery, carrots, onions, garlic, sweet potatoes and leeks. We also had a separately roasted side dish of roasted pumpkins, roasted in the mini oven while the chicken was roasting.
This is the full dinner spread. I was tasked with making the caesar salad. There is also a bowl of gravy seen on the right, made with the juices from the chicken. Super yummy and my mom was super proud we contributed. For dessert was my cake which I had shown earlier.
Christmas day we went out for lunch at a Hakka restaurant and walked around Eko Cheras Mall. After that we came back and prepared for dinner. My aunt and grandaunt came over for dinner. My local bro cooked siu yuk (roast pork) which had a crackly skin and was super yummy. Thanks bro! My mom purposely made this feast like Chinese New year as my overseas bro has missed Chinese new year with us many years and wanted to eat my mom's traditional fare.
Shown below from left to right are siu yuk, hong bak, assorted veggies and tu kar bak. So much meat! There was a prawn sambal as well not shown here. Anyway, it was lovely and we ate loads. We had cakes and chocolate for dessert.
Usually my family doesn't do presents but this year my mom and overseas bro gave us presents. My presents were a diary and paintbrushes from my mom, and a wristlet from my bro. Thanks! My mom is so thoughtful. I really will up the ante on my painting! I started painting recently, mostly watercolour. I guess it shows that if I take the time to paint, I will have many finished works! My bro's wristlet is nice and thin so it fits well with my bags.

On boxing day, my mom, bro and I went by MRT to Pavilion! We had a good time there and in Lot 10. We had vegetarian food for lunch. I was so glad to take a break from meat! We ate at Simple Life, the same restaurant I had for my birthday, but in Lot 10. I had a veggy noodle soup and my bro had lei cha, a tea rice dish.
After we walked around in Pavilion, we went to Central market, also by MRT. We saw nice things there. I didn't end up buying anything yesterday, but enjoyed walking around with my mom and bro.
Christmas is over, 2018 is almost over and 2019 is around the corner! Have a happy holiday season everyone!Labels: celebration, dinner, home cooking
