Mom's Steamed Yam Cake

After all those desserts previously, I decided to blog about savoury food. My mom made a great yam cake yesterday that was really delicious and satisfying. It was lovely with the yam chunks contrasting with the toppings of flavourful sesame seeds, dried prawn and red chillies.

We used the yam we got from my grandfather. Yam is always nice and is my favourite tuber. If I must eat carbs, I will do so with yam. It has fibre and vitamins.

It can be eaten as a snack or a meal. In Cantonese it is called "Wu Tau Ko". Basically it is starch with yam, steamed over a stove, and topped with multiple toppings like spring onions, red chillies, fried shallots, sesame seeds and dried prawn. Very tasty indeed. I am getting very hungry writing this and I hope I can still fast till night time. The yam cake itself was smooth and sticky with yam chunks and some chinese sausage chunks. Add the topping and it is a done deal... I will eat loads of it.

Huge yam chunk

Below is the recipe given by my mom. I have not tried making it but my mom has made it several times. It is quite complicated and should be a challenge for amateur cooks like me. But here goes.

Once it has been steamed and set
