Japanese Curry Dinner

Today I cooked Japanese curry for dinner. I spotted the curry in Daiso for only RM5.55 and it brought me down memory lane back to my Uni days when I sometimes cooked this. It's a simple and easy meal to make, and I think vegetable curry like this is so appetising I don't even need to add meat. I see this at sushi joints but I prefer to make my own... more fun. I used to love Japanese things in Uni and would watch anime. I still really love sushi.

The instructions on the curry pack are in Japanese without an English translation. So let me guide you through, and if the pack has English translation then great, just enjoy the pictures then. Basically Japanese curry comes in either a soft pack where you only have to heat it up, or curry cubes where you cook the ingredients and add water and the curry cubes. I find the soft pack is only one portion so would only work if I'm cooking for myself. I wanted to cook this for me and my parents, so I got the cubes.

Basically you dice the ingredients into bite size. I put in onions, carrots and potatoes. 1 onion, 2 carrots and 2 potatoes. Although I find that was a bit too much now. I should have put 1 carrot and 1 potato. We still have lots leftover.

So, you stir fry the onions until fragrant then stir fry the potatoes and carrots. Then add water enough to cover the potatoes and carrots. You might have to add more water later to reach the desired consistency. Let the carrots and potatoes stew covered until soft.

These are what's in the pack. There were 6 cubes and I used 3. I've shown 4 of them below. Basically you add the cubes one at a time to make sure you get the right consistency. For me and my parents, I used 3 cubes... yupz, one per person. I like lots of curry sauce. This time round, because there were so much veggies the sauce didn't cover it and it was a bit scant on the sauce. I prefer a lot of sauce so it's drowning the rice.

Anyway, this is the finished product all nice and ready to eat! My mouth is watering again looking at it and might help myself to more soon for supper. The taste is kinda creamy and yum. Simple food and quite mild. Appetising. Not like Indian curry at all.

I liked cooking it and remember my Uni days. Miss the innocence of those times when I still had an idealised concept of the world. I don't miss my fashion choices or hairstyle though. Lol! I miss being thin like back then, and I hope I at least lose a couple of kg by end of this year.... (and don't immediately put it all back on during Christmas!)

I am gonna go help myself to more curry now... thanks for reading!
