I went to my grandparents' house in Melaka with my parents on Monday and we arrived to an abundant durian harvest! OMG what a privilege. My grandfather's trees were blossoming with durian and each day more and more will drop from the tree! Each day, my grandfather will pick up wheelbarrow loads of durian.
When we arrived, my grandfather had the durians ready and after lunch of rice with durian, we had more durian. My grandfather gave us a crate of durian and we ate it all. The taste was like kampung durian, but there were some special ones, like something similar to Musang King. And there were a few bitter ones. And custardy ones too. There are several types. But all were delicious... creamy and yummy.

My grandfather proudly showed us a huge durian weighing 5kg! Omg it was humongous. We brought it back to KL with us. Below you can see the size, compared to a normal smaller durian. My grandfather said to save it for when my brother comes to visit. We brought back some durians to KL.
So now we are satisfied, and will crave more soon! The durian was much anticipated. The tree only blossoms once or twice a year! The rest of the year, we just wait. Or buy from the stalls. We ate so much durian OMG. Each durian has around 3-8 seeds though. So it only looks a lot. Lol... who am I kidding...
My grandfather sells his durian. He sells it for RM3 per kg. At first it was RM5, but now due to oversupply the prices dropped. He has made a decent income so far since the start of the durian season. I feel so lucky to have a grandfather who grows nice things! I think I am feeling a 2nd trip to Melaka coming up!Labels: fruit, hometown
