Birthday Dinner at Simple Life

Yesterday I celebrated my birthday. Nothing fancy. We planned to go vegetarian. It was a compromise. I am a vegan and I became a vegetarian for one day. I managed to eat a yummy hard boiled egg in my yummy dinner meal. And when I went home, I ate some chocolate.

So, we had planned this and my parents and I went to eat there. This was their first time eating there although my mom has friends who recommended the lui teh there. This was my second time going but I still didn't know what to order!

I was deciding between the udon noodles and the braised mushroom and fu chuk dish. Both appealed to me yesterday. In the end, I got the heavier option. It was good! The rice was multi grain rice and is very healthy. The sides are salad, tempeh, acar and corn soup.

My meal - braised mushroom and fu chuk with side dishes

My dad got the "nasi lemak" which he said was not the real deal. The "rendang" was pumpkin! And the "ikan bilis" was mushroom! He felt cheated sort of.. haha! But it was also multi grain and had a different spin on traditional nasi lemak. Kind of like an organic, whole grain nasi lemak.

My mom got her favourite "lui teh". Basically it is tea rice. It had peanuts, assorted veggies and multi grain rice and came with a greenish herbal soup that tastes like tea. It was yum! But the portion was huge and we couldn't finish it so we packed it back.

Anyway, we ordered a meal each but it was too much food as the portions were large. The next time we should order 2 meals and share amongst 3 people. That would be wiser. We got a coupon for our next meal for RM10 off, so maybe we will be going there again soon! I hope so!
