Last week, my brother was introduced to salted egg fish skin chips and we went to get some more at Mid Valley. We found them in Jaya Grocer.... they are so good. We got the salted egg potato chips and salted egg fish skin. Apparently it's a big thing in Singapore and Malaysia now. The brand that is famous is Irvin's but we didn't find those. We got Dan's and Uyu. They are so yummy.
Anyway, normally I snack on chips, crackers with cheese, cookies. nuts, bread, fruit, chocolate, wafers and anything I can find in the fridge or that we bought and had leftovers of. Things like kuih, noodles, dumplings etc.
I snack mainly at night and I find it helps me sleep. I often feel hungry 1-2 hours after dinner. I am not sure why but I think it's coz dinner is my main meal and after eating the insulin in my blood makes me hungry. Or maybe my stomach has gotten used to the night eating so it produces acid making me hungry. I think the latter is probably more true, but regardless the reason, I am a night eater and I am trying to cut down.
I think that snacking at night is unavoidable for me. If I just have water, I will have rumblings at night. I guess what I can do is change what I eat. I need to eat healthier snacks that are not laden with artificial ingredients and other franken-foods. If I change this, and cut down my intake of sugar, I think I can help myself be healthier. I read how bad sugar is. But it's so hard to cut down sugar!
Anyway, my brother said not to eat things that do not look like a natural thing. Like an apple, you know it's an apple, and chicken, you know that meat is from a chicken. But don't eat things I can't recognise as a real thing. Like chips. I think that makes sense, but it's really hard to do. Processed food is so much cheaper and easy to consume. Like with a chicken or a potato, I need to clean it, cut it and cook it.
So, I have prepared a list of healthy snacks that I would love to eat coz they are yummy. I hope I can make these when I want to snack. Yeah, I need to work for my food. I love these foods. I need to at least try to make it in advance. Below is the list. I have actually made some of these before.
