My brother went to Hong Kong today, concluding his 2 weeks in KL. It was a fun filled time and the time really flew by. Among others, we went to Melaka, ate Kajang Satay, went to Mid Valley twice, and he went to KLCC, Petaling Street, Putrajaya and Penang.
We went to Melaka on Wednesday and came back Thursday. There were many fruits in season. There was durian, cempedak, pineapple and soursop. Awesome! The main attraction was the king of fruits, durian, although this was a mini harvest... a taste of what's to come in June.
My grandfather kept the durian for us in a container in the fridge and we brought back the container of durian! We ate to our hearts content. Durian is really expensive in KL and when we bought Musang Durian we got ripped off. I didn't take a picture of the durian but I took a pic of a mini durian. Those were plentiful on the floor in the farm. It's those durians that were blown off by the wind and didn't make it.
The second biggest attraction was the cempedaks. They were really sweet and creamy. My grandfather often wraps them in netting or paper. He even used the political posters to wrap the cempedaks! He said they were good for wrapping cempedaks.. lol.
Below are multiple cempedaks from the same branch. My grandmother made cempedak fritters for breakfast.
Then there were the sweet pineapples. Possibly the sweetest I've tasted. They grow on the ground and are kinda cool. They are small in size but are so tasty. I ate them plain, cut into slices.
Lastly was this weird fruit called soursop. It is kinda sour, kinda creamy, quite juicy and spongy/fibrous. We ate these frozen and they tasted like 'ice cream potong', or frozen popsicles. I prefer them frozen than warm coz its kinda hard to eat when warm due to the juice running everywhere.
Lastly are 2 pictures of cool things I found on the farm. The farm is ever changing and you never know what you might find. Below is a waterproof leaf! The water doesn't stick to the leaf and the droplets look like beads.
Below are mushrooms growing from the ground! I have no idea the story behind this, but it looks so cool! Like a little toadstool.
Anyway, I do enjoy my short stays in Melaka as there is always good fruit and we get to spend time with nature and family. However it is quite hot there and I will miss my modern home in KL! Still, we go fairly often (once in 1.5 - 2 months) and it's always good to visit Melaka.Labels: fruit, hometown, travel
