Oreo Cheesecake

This is my first blog post of 2018! I hope I get off to a good start. I plan to do better this year in terms of content and put more thought and effort into creating interesting and inspiring content.

I've had my yearly stay-at-home new years eve ever since I turned 26 or so. My family and I went out for dinner nearby for New Years Eve. Just a simple Chinese dinner with steamed fish and yam basket. After that we came home and chilled. I spent the countdown time chatting with my friends on Whatsapp. We saw fireworks around the world from CNN instead of looking out the window to see our own! Hehe...

Anyway, yesterday I told myself I would finally make the Oreo cheesecake I have been planning to make for some time now. It is a simple recipe with only 6 ingredients - Cream cheese, eggs, sugar, Oreos, vanilla and butter.

I realize I can tweak recipes after I make them so that the next time I make it I could improve upon it. For this recipe, it was really heavy. I think I would add heavy cream and flour to the recipe next time.

You can get the recipe here. Taste wise, it is quite rich and the top was a bit dried and burnt. Maybe I should have put the cake in a water-bath in the oven. But the recipe didn't require that. I think it would have made a world of a difference to my cake though.

I cut down the sugar which was a good decision and the cake wasn't overly sweet. The Oreos kind of softened up in the cake. I think I should have put more Oreos. It was my mistake as I bought 2 packages of Oreos not knowing the weight. It should have been 3 packages of Oreos for that weight. Maybe Malaysian Oreos are smaller than their American counterparts.

Here is me having the cake with a cup of coffee. I have instant coffee every morning and sometimes in the afternoon. (but sometimes I wake up in the afternoon.... so that would make the 2nd cup in the evening). It is nice to have coffee with cake sometimes.

I enjoyed the cake and overall it was good to experiment with this recipe for Oreo cheesecake. I have learnt lots. I hope I can tweak the recipe next time I make it. Or find a new recipe to try. My parents enjoyed it and so did I.

It was a good breakfast today. I seldom eat breakfast but I woke up early just to have this Oreo cheesecake! So congrats to me for making the cake and waking up to eat it! Thanks for reading.
