Yesterday I made Mushroom Stroganoff. It was a vegetarian dish and very yummy. The sauce was tangy and smoky and the mushrooms were so tasty. I love everything mushroom. I envy people who live in places where mushrooms and cheeses are cheap! They are my favourite!
I bought these mushrooms at Tesco Taman Midah. The button mushrooms were around RM5 and the portobello mushrooms were around RM12. Still affordable, as they are considered premium mushrooms according to one of my friends. Most people who can't afford fresh mushrooms buy Chinese dried black mushrooms. I'm lucky I choose to splurge and eat the fresh ones once in a while. Below are the ingredients I bought from Tesco - portobello mushrooms, 2 packs of white button mushrooms and yellow mustard.
I used the recipe from the Cookie Writer blog for Mushroom Stroganoff. I followed the recipe but ended up skimping on the mushrooms. I couldn't use them all for some reason. Maybe I wanted to save them for another recipe. I left 2 portobello mushrooms and one pack of button mushrooms. I have plans for them coming soon. I wanna make a cheesy mushroom sandwich. Something like Burger King's mushroom swiss... yum!
Below is the work in progress, the sauce has many ingredients and different cooking times for each stage. I tried to follow the recipe more or less. There is tomato paste, white wine, soy sauce, mustard and sour cream for the sauce.
I used swirly macaroni instead of egg noodles. It turned out very nice. Although I should have used all the mushrooms. I had seconds, then thirds. And after dinner was over and done with, I finished the lot for supper. A very indulgent mushroom-lover day. Oooh... I can't wait to cook the remaining mushrooms! Portobello steak! And mushroom swiss melts! My dream come true!
