Yesterday was my mom's birthday. It occurred to me yesterday that my mom didn't have a birthday cake! I asked her about it and she said no, she didn't make her own birthday cake. Haha... I thought of asking my bro to buy a cake. Then I got the idea to take the initiative and make a cake. I was already planning to make a salted caramel cheesecake bar so I thought why not?
I got the recipe off Pinterest. It seemed quite easy. A biscuit crust, then cheesecake, topped with caramel sauce. I am an expert at making caramel sauce now. The cheesecake was easy - just cream cheese, sugar, egg and vanilla extract. I made it into a square so it can be cut into bars. I was a bit worried it wouldn't set in time for dinner but luckily it firmed up nicely. It tasted quite legit!
2 weeks ago was my brother's birthday so my mom made a classic chocolate cake and we had it 2 weeks ago. The picture is below... looks awesome. It was made with expensive chocolate and tasted so rich. It was really nice. The mould she used had a very clean surface so it made a nice clean shape. We all really enjoyed the cake.

To celebrate my mom's birthday, we went to eat dinner at our club yesterday. Ah Ma joined us. My bro too. The food there during dinner time is really fine dining kind of food. They have great Western food and some Asian favourites too. My mom had fish, my dad and grandma had chicken chop, my bro had a steak and I had mac and cheese. For the appetiser we ordered beef satay and a smoked salmon sandwich. So yummy! The smoked salmon sandwich had avocado in it!
I ordered vegetarian mac and cheese and it was really creamy. It had mushrooms in it which I loved. The cheese was really stringy and nice.

So all in all, it was a good day! Great dinner, followed by cake. My mom's and brothers' birthdays are done. Nice to have so many birthdays in October. I guess Christmas is next too! Yay! More celebrations, more food!
