Trip to Melaka

I went to Melaka yesterday and stayed there for 1 day until today. My parents, brother and I went and my brother drove us there. My grandfather's house is in a small village and it is quite quiet and the surroundings are very natural... a lot of greenery. People there are mostly farmers. Whenever we go we get to pluck and wrap fruit, play with the dog, and my grandmother and mom will cook us a simple meal for dinner. It is quite hot normally but yesterday the weather was good and it wasn't so unbearably hot.

When we arrived, we had coffee and mooncake. My mom made mooncake which I will blog about soon. Then my grandfather showed us some coconuts and cut it for us. We poured out the coconut water and he cut the coconut in half and scooped out all the flesh. It was so yummy! The coconut flesh was so thick and a bit crunchy.

I spotted some blue flowers drying in the sun. I think these blue flowers are used as food dye and can turn glutinous rice cake blue like the malay 'kuih' that we have here.

I also played with the dog. The crazy doggie was tied up and this is the tranquil one. She is so chilled and so well behaved. I like petting her.

Below are 2 mini pineapples my grandfather plucked for us. So cute!

Below is some soil that my grandfather made. He burns rubbish in the garden and makes a compost heap. This mixed up with soil gives some very dark, healthy and fertile soil, perfect for our garden back home. Every time we go back to Melaka we will bring back home a few bags of my grandfather's soil.

Later on we went to the nearby supermarket, Family Store. Here we helped my grandfather buy some groceries and bought some nice snacks and food for ourselves.

Below is our basket. The beer is for my dad, brother and uncle to drink at night. There are peanuts, crackers and the pink bars are Apollo wafer bars. Really yummy.

At dinner, my grandma cooked fried chicken drummets and wings. And we ate it with rice and stir fried papaya. The papaya was still green so it tasted and looked like a melon. Also, we had meatball soup with leek and my mom brought chicken rendang. It was a good dinner.

At night, my uncle came over to visit my parents. They all chit chatted for many hours and ate snacks and drank beer.

In the morning I ate curry puffs my grandma made. Really nice. Then we helped to pack fruits and soil in the car.

I am glad we are able to have a rural escapade to go to once in a while. It is nice to load up on fruits and veg. I am glad I can still spend time with family like this. I am really blessed and should be grateful.
