Today I made a grilled cheese sandwich. This is the second time I made this but today my brother came over and helped me, so this is his recipe. Here is the final outcome.. Yum!
I had the provolone and mozzarella my friend gave me and ate some of it already. They were brought all the way from Melbourne and was cheap there but would cost a lot here. She brought 2 packets of Mozzarella and 1 packet of Provolone. Both were really nice when eaten on its own.
So my brother showed me a new way to make grilled cheese sandwiches. Basically you butter the bread and put some sliced cheese on it. Below is how much cheese we used. The crumbly bits are actually the butter that was on the top slice of bread. He added a pinch of salt to the cheese too.
Then he put a slab of butter in the non stick pan on low heat, and put the sandwich and let it cook for a while... maybe 1 min or so. When the bottom was brown, he added butter and flipped it over to cook on the other side. Then comes the pro tip - putting a little water into the pan and covering it up with a lid to steam for a while. Once the water evaporates, it is done. My brother found this tip on a cooking show and he said it was so scientific. Haha.
Anyway the final outcome was really good. The cheese was really stringy and it was so evenly cooked through because of the steam step. It was not burnt, yet the bread was so crisp. I really liked it a lot. We shared with my parents and they said it was good too. Thanks to my bro for showing this new way of cooking a grilled cheese sandwich!Labels: bread, home cooking, snacks
