First of all, I am fortunate to have the ability to decorate my room. It is a first world problem. In the long run, it doesn't matter but I still like to have a nice place to come home to and relax. Where I can keep my things and organise what I have too. I always feel better in a place that is neat and tidy and everything has a home.
I won't show my room "before" picture because it is not really nice and I do not feel proud to show it. But safe to say it was not aesthetically pleasing, was cluttered, and had no design concept. I would like to think it is a makeover now and that it looks somewhat better! I am no interior designer.
To redecorate my room, it cost around RM500 for bedding, shelves, cushion covers and various other accessories. I got everything either from Lazada the online store, Ikea (I went there twice), and Daiso, a Japanese dollar store.
I could say I went overboard with the bedding and got a few unnecessary duplicates. Like I bought a grey bedsheet comforter set and also a 2 piece white bedsheet and pillowcase. Plus another pillowcase along with that. Also 3 cushion covers of which I returned one of them.
The first step I took, though was to rearrange the furniture. I can't choose my furniture in my room as it is bought by my parents. Then I painted 2 walls grey. The paint colour was called Universal Grey. It was very flattering. Then I swept and mopped the floor.
I then bought 12 items from Lazada which were all delivered within a span of 2 weeks. I particularly liked the world map sticker and grey bedsheet. I installed the shelves from Lazada in the corner using an electric drill. Then I went to Ikea and bought the poster on my filing cabinet - a cactus. I got another few knick knacks from Daiso that I thought were cute.
On the desk in the corner is a snake plant my mom potted for me. It is a good indoor plant and is really hardy. I like it very much.
Overall, I would say I spent too much and over bought many things. But I do like how my room looks now over how it looked previously. I would say it is an investment into my comfort and I am proud of my room as it is now. 😄 I am quite happy with it.Labels: cleaning, decor, lifestyle, projects
