Today I ate dinner with Fai... It was a good outing and we had a nice long chat. Even after the dinner we continued to hang out there and talk.
We went to a restaurant nearby called KK Wong Seafood. A small and humble place. I liked the decor as it was quite lively in Chinese style with comfortable air con. The menu had so many items! Fai had a hard time going through all the food in the menu and continued to read the menu even after we ordered.
The chef personally came to see if we needed more rice and the service was quite good and quick.
We ordered rice with dishes. Something like tai chow... I think it is considered a tai chow. We ordered fried squid calamari and "kau yuk" which is braised sliced pork. The fried squid was good and not too salty. It was fried in batter... it was a bit chewy but I think that's how it is supposed to be.
The braised pork was good, quite lean. It was on a bed of salted veggies. I ate it with the rice and the sauce was not too salty. Meanwhile I was talking to Fai about health.... about cholesterol and other bloodwork. I concluded that eating at home is healthier as my whole family has good cholesterol and blood sugar levels. Also our blood pressure is good. We always eat in and avoid unnecessary fat or sugar/salt.
The salted vegetables was not bad... quite tasty. It was salty of course but the sauce was not as salty as the vegetables itself so it is ok to eat the sauce with rice.
My only complaint about the meal was that it was so expensive. It was RM58 for both of us, including drinks of chinese tea. Ridiculous prices for us two poor young people. But my parents said it is to be expected when we eat rice with dishes in an air con place. I guess I have to face the fact that food is no longer cheap anymore.
Anyway, after dinner I felt fine. Just a little thirsty. But it was nice to go out and catch up with Fai and we had an interesting conversation. So it was a good dinner.
