Earlier this week we went to my mom's hometown in Melaka. A kampong, or village. We went there to visit my grandparents and to give them some bak chang that my mom made as well as bring back some vegetables and seeds for our garden.
I really enjoyed myself being in the kampong. The air is fresher and there is greenery all around. It really helps me to de-stress. I like their fruit farm where they grow many fruits and vegetables. The kampong is small so everyone knows everyone. My grandparents are farmers and they sell their fruits and vegetables.
The house is a small house and the farm is in front of it. There is a small shed next to it, as well as another shed opposite. Below are the shed next to their house with the blue sky and another storage shed opposite.
The vegetables they grow include some leafy greens below. I am not sure what they are called in English. But they are all edible once cooked. I think the third pic has spring onion.
There are also 2 dogs that live with my grandparents. They just hang around there and my grandma feeds them. I think they also help to guard the property although I only saw them snoozing. The first pic is of a black and white dog next to the shed next door. The second pic is their older dog amidst a bed of sweet potato leaves.
My grandfather is always so keen for us to try their fruit when it is ready to be harvested. Below is my grandfather plucking papaya from the papaya tree in front of the house. He uses a long stick with prongs at the end, to grasp the papaya and bring it down. There is also a wheelbarrow to carry the fruit. My grandfather is very proud of his fruit. Below are also pineapples from the pineapple plants.

We also brought back some passionfruit. These are nice to eat or make into drinks. They are quite sour but some are quite sweet. I find they are really refreshing. Also, some mini pineapples. They are just small but are already ripe. So cute and tiny compared with the big pineapples!
I am always very relaxed after going back to the kampung. And we always bring back a car booth full of produce from the farm! We could eat all the fruit for weeks! My grandfather is also happy to give us all the best fruits. He will reserve some for us sometimes when we say we are going. He prefers to give his grandchildren the best fruit rather than sell them!
Overall it was a nice trip. I got to see the fruit trees and play with the two dogs. My mom caught up with my grandparents. We go quite often to visit them and it is always a relaxing experience.
