Pineapple smoothie

Pineapples are an occasional treat here. Whenever we go back to my mom's hometown, my grandfather would give us a few pineapples to bring home. We would report back to him whether the pineapples were sweet or not.

The pineapples my grandfather gives are quite sweet. The bottom part is usually sweeter than the top, so when cut, there is one sweet end. I have to figure out which end is sweet.

Pineapples grow in a weird way. They grow from the ground from a spiky-leafed plant. Out of the central stem grows the pineapple. The crown of the pineapple fruit has spiky leaves too and when cut off and planted grows into another pineapple plant! Cool right? That's coz the crown has many tiny roots to grow into a new plant.

It is not easy to cut a pineapple and I have not mastered it. My mom would cut off the skin first, then cut the black seeds off in a spiral down the pineapple. It takes a long time even for my mom to do it. There is such a thing as a pineapple corer. I saw it online but have not bought it. It could come in handy since we eat pineapples every now and then. It could be a father's day gift idea for my dad and grandfather. A belated one, since it is this weekend.

Anyway, today I decided to make a pineapple smoothie. My mom cut the pineapple already and I picked up 2 segments and blended it with coconut milk and water in my smoothie blender. Please see the recipe below. It was very nice. No need to add sugar! Natural flavours.

So below is the recipe.

Ingredients
Some pineapple chunks
a splash of coconut milk
a splash of water

Blend all the ingredients together in a blender. Pulse a few times until reached the desired consistency. Pour out into a cup and enjoy!

Thanks for reading. The pineapples are awesome. Smoothie too. =)
