Okay, I am so behind on trends. I am only now trying cold brew coffee. Probably because I was contemplating for a long time whether to get the whole pack of beans or not. It is a real commitment to get the beans to make it from scratch. And I did try the whole instant Nescafe put in the fridge kind of thing. Was ok, but it is wasn't ideal.
Then I went to Starbucks yesterday and they were selling instant cold brew! They also sold the beans for RM40 but it was too much of a commitment. I was afraid I would make cold brew once or twice then forget all about the beans. Btw Starbucks can grind the beans for me.
So I saw instant cold brew and they had 5 satchets in the pack for RM15! That is RM3 per cup of joe. Much cheaper than a straight up Americano. I debated between the cold brew beans and the instant cold brew and finally decided on the lesser commitment.
It is called iced coffee and basicly you put the sachet into a cup of water and add ice or refridgerate it. I'm not sure if it is supposed to be made with warm water or not. I used lukewarm water and it was just fine. I added ice afterwards. It dissolved completely and wasn't a huge mess.
I forgot to mention, there is cane sugar added to it. The packet said the ideal amount of cane suger. I found it to be sufficiently sweet but I could do with less sugar. Or no sugar at all. Hmm... if only Starbucks sold instant cold brew that is unsweetened. Oh well, I can't have everything.
It was sweet and refreshing and the coffee wasn't too bitter or acidic. Very palatable and I know I am not a coffee connoisseur, but I thought it was super fresh. Maybe that's why they say cold brew is so good. It is more palatable than hot coffee. I don't really like hot black coffee, and I prefer iced black coffee.
I made it yesterday and I think I will make another one today. I am so glad I bought this instead of the beans. I would have made a bad investment if I had chosen the beans. I am fine with just the instant coffee. Yupz.... I am an instant sort of person. A lazy one at that. =)Labels: coffee, drinks, tea time
