Today I volunteered at a hospice centre but at their office. The hospice centre itself has no patients, and doctors go to visit the patients at their homes.
The lady who called me told me it was a cleaning up job. I thought it was cleaning up after an event. Turns out they wanted me to rearrange things in the office. It seemed like a nice thing to do. So I went.
The office was neat enough but lots of promotional material was mixed up and placed everywhere... And it was confusing to clear up. So I didn't finish all of it. They asked me to go back tomorrow. I will maybe try to finish by tomorrow. Hopefully I can help them and be of use.
On Feb 25 I am going to an event by World Vision. It is just a short talk about their experience volunteering in India. I don't know what will come out of it if I go. But it is free anyway, and I get to see what people do to volunteer in India.
I have not much experience volunteering.. only at a soup kitchen once, for an event by Mustard Seed, Little Sisters of the Poor for 2 days, and now this. I am not so sure I like volunteering... It has almost as much responsibility as working. You also need organizational skills, social skills and time management. No point just show up and daydream. And of course I won't get paid.
So tomorrow I will continue to help them. So far it's OK. I hope I can finish the work by tomorrow. My friend Vivian was supposed to go with me today but she cancelled. I wished I had a friend to help. Seems to be more fun if there is a good friend to chit chat with.
